Patrick's Update of Spring 2008
Patrick writes:
It's been a while since we updated the music page, but the spring has had some nice horse shows and some nice new music releases. Some music I am enjoying are Allison Moorer's (married to Steve Earle) "Mockingbird" and her sister Shelby Lynne's great new disc, "Just a Little Lovin'". Also, Jackson Browne's "Solo Accoustic Vol II" has plenty of great old songs. Mike Lowry and I caught Hays Carll in Denton a week ago and picked up his new CD, "Trouble in Mind", which has some great tunes. He is such a great song writer...check out the song "She left me for Jesus". Counting Crows has a new release for the first time in over four years. I'm still working through this but if you are a Counting Crows fan there is plenty to enjoy there. As Ned Coffin stated, James McMurtry is such a great song writer, too, and he has a new disc out "Just for Kids" which sounds like classic good James. He is the son of Larry McMurty (Lonesome Dove), so you see where he gets the writing skills. The new Van Morrison "Keep it Simple" is good but not in the league with some of his classics. I have two sleepers that are my favorites so far in '08. Mando Saenz's "Bucket" is good from top to bottom - clever songs with a great sounding band. Also pick up Doug Burr's "On Promenade". This guy lives in Denton, TX, and has a very Ryan Adams sound. I would love to hear from other music fans out there, if not you will hear from Mo again! Stay tuned in....
